ABOUT PARTICIPATION
At Participation, everything began with running—and with paying attention.
We were running regularly, noticing what people wore, how it made them feel, and what was missing. On one end, beautifully made pieces that felt out of reach. On the other, gear that worked but said nothing. Somewhere between performance and personality, there was a gap that felt obvious once you saw it.
So we started small. Designing pieces we actually wanted to wear. Simple, functional garments that didn’t try to shout, but didn’t fade into the background either. Clothes you could grab without overthinking—then forget about once the run began.
We’re not here to reinvent fabric science or chase the latest technology. Our focus is narrower, and more deliberate. Make practical running gear. Make it feel good to put on. Make it last. And give it just enough character to remind you why you enjoy running in the first place.
Running, for us, has never been a solo act. It’s shaped by the people you move with, the routes you repeat, the conversations that happen mid-run and after. That sense of shared experience matters. Which is why collaboration sits at the center of what we do.
We work closely with running crews and communities, helping them create gear that reflects who they are. Not generic templates, but pieces that carry meaning—designed together, worn together, and eventually seen everywhere. What starts as something personal often resonates far beyond its original circle.
Participation continues to grow, but it remains independent and hands-on. We’re still deeply involved in every decision, every drop, every detail. That independence gives us clarity. It allows us to stay focused on what matters: making honest running gear, supporting the communities that inspire us, and keeping the act of running personal, expressive, and shared.
